Key challenges:
An Urban Design concept design for a dual carriageway tunnel in an urban setting. The new tunnel will link the old city of Hangzhou with the new CBD. The central wall acts as a blade that helps air quality within the tunnel and rises as a sculptural element at street level.

The architectural language takes its inspiration from symbols and meanings of the old city: the boat shape openings at the portals reflect the importance of the West Lake to the old city. The fluid shapes reflect the canal that the tunnel crosses under; and the contemporary language creates a visual link with the new Hangzhou CBD, China.
